FAQ's
1. What does LDCR stand for?
Lake District Cycle Recovery. Your on-call guardian angel when your bike throws in the towel.
2. What do you cover?
Mechanical breakdowns and accidents — not coffee comas, tired legs, or ‘can’t be arsed today’ syndrome.
3. Can you rescue me from a bridleway or trail?
Only if you can hike it back to a road. I need proper van access, not mountain goat routes.
5. What times are you available?
10am–5pm daily (except Christmas, Boxing Day, and any breaks I announce in advance).
6. Where can I find the rescue rules?
See the 'What You Need to Know' page. It’s basically the LDCR Ten Commandments. Read it. Ride right.
7. What’s your fair use policy?
Be decent. I’m not a taxi. Rescue is for breakdowns, not because you got rained on or bonked near a bakery.
8. Can I get rescued because I’m tired or cold or can’t face the headwind?
Nope. I rescue bikes, not moods. Pull up your bibs and crack on.
9. What if I don’t have signal?
Use What3Words — it’s magic in the hills. Or send your last known spot + direction of travel via text.
10. Do you bring snacks or drinks?
Yep! Flapjacks, protein bars, something warm or cold. Let me know allergies on your booking form — your safety, your responsibility.
11. What happens after I request a rescue?
I’ll confirm your location, give an estimated departure time, and send a tracking link. Then sit tight, stay visible, stay warm, stay safe.
12. Where will I be dropped off?
Where you told me on the booking form — car, home, mechanic, or whatever safe spot you picked.
13. Can I change my drop-off during rescue?
Only if absolutely needed. I’ll try to help, but we plan around what you originally told me.
14. Can I get extra help after drop-off?
That would count as a new rescue. First one’s included. Second one? That’s a fresh gig.
15. Do you do group rescues?
No. It’s one cyclist, one seat. I can fit two bikes, but not two bums.
16. Are you insured?
Yes. Fully covered with public liability and road recovery. I’ve got your back (and your bike’s).
17. Do you support races or sportives?
Nope. LDCR isn’t race support. I don’t wait around at finish lines or hand out medals.
19. Do you do early mornings or late nights?
No. It’s 10am–5pm. Outside that I’m either sleeping, riding, or recovering from rescuing you lot.
20. Are you first aid trained?
Yes – basic first aid. If you're seriously hurt, call 999. I'm a rescue van, not an ambulance.
21. Can I request a specific snack?
You can try! If it’s on board, it’s yours. Just tell me your allergies at booking.
22. What days are you closed?
Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the odd planned break. I'll give you notice. I need tea and cake too.
24. Can I just drop a pin on WhatsApp?
Sure — but What3Words is sharper. It’s what I’ll ask for if we get muddled.
25. What if conditions are too bad to reach me?
I might suggest a meeting point or shelter. In rare cases, I’ll ask you to ring emergency services.
27. Will I need to take my wheels off?
Rarely. But if your bike won’t fit, I’ll ask you to pop the wheels off and help me load it.
28. Can you fix my bike instead of rescuing me?
Nope. I’m not a mobile mechanic. If it’s an easy fix, great — but rescue means transport, not roadside repairs.
29. How do emergency call-outs work?
Emergency (not pre-booked) rescues cost more, must be paid up front, and may take longer depending on where I am.
30. What if I booked with wrong details?
If I can’t find you, or you’ve sent me off-piste, I may cancel the rescue or charge more. Be accurate.
31. Do I need ID or membership proof?
Yes. Keep your membership card on your phone or in your wallet. It proves you’re covered — and I’m not being catfished.
32. Do you take e-bikes or tandems?
No. LDCR only covers standard bicycles. E-bikes, tandems, recumbents, or handbikes don’t fit the van and aren’t covered.
33. Are there any conditions for eligibility?
Yes: Your bike must be roadworthy and serviced per the manufacturer’s guidelines. You must be at least 1 mile from your accommodation or any open bike repair shop. I also reserve the right to withdraw cover and refund you if the conditions aren’t met. All rescues must be pre-booked.
